The Epworth Center Family Garden Initiative is a volunteer-driven, community outreach nutrition program run by the Epworth Center. We serve low-maintenance, above-ground gardens to low-income families within the community. Epworth Center and community partners bring the initiative to the Glenwood Village Apartments in Bethesda on the afternoon of May 19, 2014. On that day, volunteers will work together to deliver 10-15 gardens to neighborhood families. These unique above ground garden systems allow families to grow, harvest and eat fresh, healthy, tasty vegetables and herbs.
The Epworth Center is a nonprofit organization affiliated with The United Methodist Church, working in rural Appalachia. Primary ministries include the SOWER Work Mission building repair program, Project Manna food pantry, partnership with group homes, prayer, medical, and more. Many of our ministries serve Belmont County and surrounding counties in Ohio. Project Manna serves the Union Local School District. The Epworth Center focuses on servanthood development and meeting the needs of the communities we serve. We also have an emphasis on community development, and poverty education and alleviation. Relationship building is integral to the ministries at Epworth Center, both in terms of person-to-person and person-with-God. We show the love of Christ through the work that we do. The Epworth Center is also home to Real Life Community of Faith UMC, which meets on Sundays. We host retreats, rentals and educational events. Our website has a lot of information about the work that we do –www.epworthcenter.org.
